You’ve got to try this recipe! It gets even tastier the day after… if you can hold off!
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, making sure each is fully combined before adding the next.
Stir in the apple butter, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until evenly distributed.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a richer flavor, you can substitute dark brown sugar for granulated sugar. You might also try adding a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans for added texture. If you’re feeling adventurous, drizzle a simple glaze made of powdered sugar and apple cider over the cooled cake for an extra touch of sweetness. And remember, the spices can always be adjusted to suit your personal taste – don’t be afraid to make this recipe your own.
