Wow! I took this dish to a gathering, and it disappeared in no time.
Directions
1. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
2. Stir in the chopped jalapeños until evenly distributed throughout the cheese mixture.
3. Roll the cheese mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
4. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
5. Roll each cheese ball in the flour, then dip in the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Ensure each ball is fully covered.
6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
7. Fry the cheese bites in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.
Variations & Tips
For a milder version, use fewer jalapeños or substitute with milder peppers like Anaheim or poblano. For extra flavor, add some cooked, crumbled bacon to the cheese mixture. You can also experiment with different cheeses, such as pepper jack or mozzarella, for a unique twist. If you prefer baking over frying, place the breaded cheese bites on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
