These are seriously the best! Make for amazing gifts too!
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts on a lightly floured surface.
Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out as many hearts as possible from the dough. You should get about 16 hearts total.
Place half of the hearts on the prepared baking sheet.
Spoon about 1 tablespoon of strawberry pie filling onto the center of each heart on the baking sheet, leaving a border around the edges.
In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with the tablespoon of water to create an egg wash.
Brush the edges of the hearts with the egg wash.
Place the remaining hearts on top of the filled hearts, pressing the edges with a fork to seal them.
Brush the tops of the pies with the egg wash.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pies are golden brown.
While the pies are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Once the pies are done baking, let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling the glaze over the top.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
Variations & Tips
For a different flavor, try using cherry or blueberry pie filling instead of strawberry. If you have picky eaters, consider making a few pies with just a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar instead of glaze. You can also add a touch of lemon zest to the glaze for a refreshing twist. For a more rustic look, use a fork to crimp the edges of the pies. If you don’t have a heart-shaped cutter, any shape will do—get creative with stars or circles!
