Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions Recipe

Ingredients:

• For the beef marinade:
  • 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
• For the sauce:
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional for sweetness)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (to thicken)
• For the stir-fry:
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or peanut oil)
  • Optional: 1-2 small hot chilies, thinly sliced (if you like heat)
• For the sizzling:
  • 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil (for the hot skillet)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (for added flavor)
