Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the beef marinade:
- 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- For the sauce:
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional for sweetness)
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (to thicken)
- For the stir-fry:
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or peanut oil)
- Optional: 1-2 small hot chilies, thinly sliced (if you like heat)
- For the sizzling:
- 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil (for the hot skillet)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil (for added flavor)
