Layered Minced Meat and Potato Casserole Recipe

Step 1: Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil the potatoes until soft, then mash them with butter and a pinch of salt until smooth. Divide the mashed potatoes into two equal portions.

Step 2: Cook the Minced Meat Mixture

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and fry the chopped onions in a tablespoon of butter until translucent, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced meat and cook until the moisture evaporates, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add the diced red bell pepper and fry for 2 minutes.
  5. Mix in cherry tomatoes, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and tomato paste. Cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add chopped green onions, stir, and cook for another minute. Set aside.

Step 3: Assemble the Casserole

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
  2. Spread half of the mashed potatoes evenly in a greased casserole dish.
  3. Lay 4 slices of processed cheese on top.
  4. Add the cooked minced meat mixture as the next layer.
  5. Spread the remaining mashed potatoes over the meat layer.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top and add the remaining 4 slices of processed cheese.

Step 4: Prepare the Egg Mixture

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, a pinch of salt, pepper, and a classic herbal blend until smooth.
  2. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.

Step 5: Bake the Casserole

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the top is golden and set.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  1. Garnish with fresh dill if desired.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy!
