I loved this dish when I was little. I’d constantly pester my mom to cook it.
Directions
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the flour to the melted butter, stirring constantly to create a roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and lightly golden.
Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
Add the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the sauce, adjusting the seasoning to taste.
Stir in the frozen peas and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the peas are heated through and tender.
Serve warm and enjoy!
Variations & Tips
For a richer flavor, you can substitute half of the milk with cream. If you have fresh peas, they can be used instead of frozen; just blanch them briefly before adding to the sauce. For a cheesy twist, stir in 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese before serving. If you have picky eaters, consider blending the sauce until smooth before adding the peas, creating a velvety texture that kids might find more appealing.
