To begin, gather a clean glass or plastic bowl, some water, and a loose-fitting lid or plastic wrap. Start by trimming the stems of the parsley bunch to remove any wilted or damaged parts. This step is crucial as it helps the parsley absorb water more efficiently, promoting longevity.

Next, fill the bowl with about an inch of water. The water should be cool but not ice-cold. Place the parsley stems in the water, ensuring that all stems are submerged while keeping the leaves above the waterline to prevent sogginess or rot.

Once the parsley is in the bowl, cover it loosely with a lid or plastic wrap. This cover acts as a barrier, reducing air exposure and helping to retain moisture around the leaves. It’s important to avoid sealing the bowl too tightly as parsley needs some airflow to stay fresh.

Storage and Maintenance

After setting up, store the bowl in the refrigerator. The cool temperature slows down the deterioration process, keeping the parsley fresh for weeks. Regularly check the water level and change it every few days to prevent bacterial growth which can cause the parsley to spoil prematurely.
