Ingredients and Preparation

Before you begin cooking, it’s essential to gather all the necessary ingredients. For this recipe, you will need pork chops, potatoes, heavy cream, chicken broth, minced garlic, onion powder, salt, pepper, and a hint of fresh thyme. These ingredients come together to create a creamy, savory sauce that envelops the pork chops and potatoes beautifully.

Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Season the pork chops generously with salt, pepper, and onion powder. This simple seasoning enhances the natural flavors of the meat without overpowering them. Next, peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds, ensuring they cook evenly alongside the pork chops.

Cooking Process

In a large oven-safe skillet or baking dish, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust. This step is crucial as it locks in the juices and adds a depth of flavor to the chops. Once seared, remove the pork chops from the skillet and set them aside.

In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about a minute until fragrant. Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream, whisking to combine. As the sauce begins to simmer, add in the fresh thyme, allowing its aromatic oils to infuse the creamy mixture. Place the sliced potatoes evenly in the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce. Finally, place the seared pork chops on top of the potatoes, allowing their juices to mingle with the creamy sauce as they bake.

Baking to Perfection

Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for around 30-35 minutes. This allows the pork chops to cook through while the potatoes become tender and creamy. The baking process also allows the sauce to thicken slightly, creating a luxurious coating over the entire dish. If you prefer a crispy topping, you can sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese over the pork chops and potatoes during the last 5 minutes of baking.

Once done, remove the skillet from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. This resting time allows the flavors to meld together, creating a cohesive dish that’s ready to be served. The result is a comforting and delicious meal that combines the tenderness of pork with the heartiness of potatoes.
