Beef Tataki – A Japanese Delight
Instructions
Sear the Beef:
Season the beef generously with salt & black pepper.
Heat a pan over high heat and add vegetable oil.
When the pan is very hot, sear the beef for 1-2 minutes per side until a golden crust forms.
Rest the Beef:
Remove from heat and let the beef rest for 10 minutes to retain its juices.
Make the Tataki Sauce:
In a bowl, whisk together:
Sake
Rice vinegar
Soy sauce
Water
Lemon/lime juice
Grated ginger & minced garlic
Stir well to combine.
Slice the Beef:
After resting, slice the beef as thinly as possible using a sharp knife.
Assemble & Serve:
Arrange the thin beef slices on a plate.
Drizzle with tataki sauce.
Garnish with sliced hot peppers, fried onions, lime wedges, and sesame seeds.
