👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. SautĂ© the Aromatics: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sautĂ© until it’s soft and translucent.

  2. Cook the Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the pot. Season with salt and pepper. Stir well and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender—about 20 minutes.

  3. Prepare the Dumpling Batter: While the cabbage is cooking, whisk together the flour and ½ teaspoon of salt in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a thick batter forms.

  4. Cook the Dumplings: Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Using two spoons, drop small portions of the dumpling batter into the boiling water. Cook until the dumplings rise to the surface and are cooked through, about 3-5 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

  5. Combine and Serve: Once the cabbage is tender, gently fold in the cooked dumplings until everything is well combined. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve warm.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions:

This hearty dish pairs beautifully with buttery mashed potatoes or a freshly baked loaf of crusty sourdough bread. For a touch of sweetness, consider serving it alongside applesauce or pickled beets. And if you’re in the mood for a complete German-inspired meal, a glass of chilled Riesling and a slice of warm apple strudel for dessert would be perfect companions.

This recipe isn’t just about the flavors—it’s about the love and memories infused in every bite. It’s a testament to the enduring power of family traditions and the simple joy of sharing a meal with loved ones. Give it a try, and let it become a cherished part of your family’s culinary heritage too.
